10 Fun Summer Activities to Do with Your Dog

With warm weather upon us, you might be thinking about what activities you can do with your pup. This is why we’ve put together a list of 10 fun summer activities to do with your dog.

1.  Take Your Dog to The Beach

The beach is a great place to take your dog. Not only will they enjoy running around on the sand and sniffing everything, but you can also play fetch with them in the water or go for a walk along the shoreline. Just make sure that they stay away from any jellyfish!

2.  Play Fetch in The Backyard

One of the most classic games to play with your dog is fetch. Throw a ball, stick, or another object for them to chase and bring back. It is good exercise for both you and your pup!

3.  Explore New Places with Your Pup

Walking around your neighborhood is a great summer activity to do with your dog. This is a great way to bond with them while getting some exercise for the both of you. Plus, it’s an excellent excuse to stop in at local pet shops or restaurants that cater specifically to dogs!

4.  Teach Them Some New Tricks

Teaching your dog a few basic commands is an excellent way to spend time with them. It helps reinforce the bond you have as well as improve their behavior. Here are some easy ones to start out:

  • Teach them to shake hands
  • Sit on command
  • Stay until released
  • Speak on command

5.  Get Them a New Toy

Toys are a great way to keep your dog entertained outside. They can serve as something for them to chew on, throw around, sleep next to, or whatever else they want! This will help take care of boredom that usually leads to destructive behavior in the home. Some good options are Frisbees and balls because they’re light enough for dogs but still durable.

6.  Take a Hike

Hiking is a great way to get some exercise and spend time with your dog. It’s also an ideal option for those who don’t have much space at home or can’t take the pet outside too often on a daily basis — hiking offers different terrain that will be good for them no matter how old your dog is!  It doesn’t need to always be difficult to hike; there are plenty of trails you and your pup can experience where you won’t break too much of a sweat.

7.  Make Summertime Treats for Your Dog

One of the great things about summer is all of the fun fruits and vegetables that are available. While your dog can’t eat all of them, they can enjoy some fruit or vegetables mixed in with their food! If you have a little more time on your hands (or don’t mind spending it), try making some homemade doggie ice cream for dessert. Slurping up some ice cream (outside so they don’t make a mess in the house) is a great way to occupy your dog’s mind for a while.

8. Go Camping

If you have a backyard or if you find a pet-friendly campground, camping might be the perfect thing for your dog this summer. Tents are not necessary for your backyard; all you need is some old sheets and towels!  You can create a little make-shift tent and lay down on some blankets to enjoy the evening. Your pup will love it – they will enjoy being out in nature while still being close enough to home if things get too hot.

At a campground, you can enjoy the great outdoors and have more room for your pup to run around.

9. Have a Pet BBQ

If you have a backyard, there’s no reason why your dog doesn’t get invited to the BBQ. Just make sure they don’t try to steal anything off the grill! You can also find pet-friendly restaurants if you want to mix things up this summer.

10. Turn on the Sprinkler

Dogs love to play in the sprinkler. If you have a yard, turn on your lawn sprinklers and let them run around. If you have a pool or a baby pool, your dog will certainly enjoy the time in there as well. They’ll be soaked by the time they come inside!

Hopefully, these 10 fun summer activities to do with your dog gives you the motivation to enjoy the warm weather and spend quality time with your dog while the weather is nice.
